Building Laneway Suites Across the City
As of July 16 2019, the City of Toronto allows the construction of Laneway Suites across the City on residential properties that share a property line with a public lane, subject to criteria: By-law requirements for Laneway Suites Applying for a Building Permit for a Laneway Suite Development Charge Deferral Program and Affordable Laneway Suites Pilot Program You can find out more about this program here.

Residents Achieve First Win at TLAB!
Homeowners wishing to develop a residential property may request a minor variance from the city’s planning bylaws through the Committee of Adjustment. In the past, if the application was refused, the owner would appeal this decision to the OMB. As of this summer the OMB no longer acts as the appeals body for minor variances and consents (lot severances). The City of Toronto recently produced a short 8 page brochure that provides an excellent introduction to the Committee of Adjustment process. The brochure has been printed in a glossy fold-out format and is not yet available on-line. You may contact the councillor or visit the Committee of Adjustment to get a printed copy. 146 Manor Road East The owner of this property is proposing to renovate a vintage home that will be the tallest and longest dwelling on the local block. The adjacent neighbours asked for SERRA’s assistance to oppose the application at the Committee of Adjustment (CoA) and OMB hearings. 585 Hillsdale Ave. project stopped for now
SERRA supported a group of 50 well-organized residents to support their win at 585 Hillsdale. The proposed development application was to tear down a small apartment building, sever the lot and build two very large Tall Homes. The Committee of Adjustment disapproved the proposal. SERRA supported 50 residents on Hillsdale Ave. who went to the Committee of Adjustment to stop a completely inappropriate tall homes development on the street. The committee agreed with the neighbours. But the fight isn’t over yet! Town Crier article
